Charge Dynamics in Highly Insulating Space Craft Materials

چکیده
We present a preliminary report on the theoretical and experimental study of transport models in highly insulating materials. The report is developed in four sections; first we give background on the nature of the problems in space craft charging, the contributions and connections made by the Utah State material physics group. Second we discuss the density of states to explore the connections between material composition and the microscopic and macroscopic transport equations. Third from Maxwell’s equations we present an overview of the transport equations. Finally we present preliminary results using experimental data on Kapton TM , the transport equations and relevant expressions for the density of states.

Multidielectric polyethylene is a material that is generally employed as insulation for the HVDC isolations. In this paper, the influence of temperature on space charge dynamics has been studied, low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) sandwiched between two electrodes were subjected to voltage application of 5kV (14.3 kV/mm) for extended duration of time ...
متن کاملSpace Charge Modulated Electrical Breakdown
Electrical breakdown is one of the most important physical phenomena in electrical and electronic engineering. Since the early 20(th) century, many theories and models of electrical breakdown have been proposed, but the origin of one key issue, that the explanation for dc breakdown strength being twice or higher than ac breakdown strength in insulating materials, remains unclear. Here, by emplo...

Charge carriers in low-doped semiconductors may distort the atomic lattice around them and through this interaction form so-called small polarons. High carrier concentrations on the other hand can lead to short-range ordered polarons (large polarons) and even to a long-range charge and orbital order. These ordered systems should be insulating with a large electrical resistivity. However, recent...
متن کاملUnderstanding Charge Dynamics in Elastomers Adopting Pulsed Electro Acoustic (PEA) Technique
In the present work, Pulsed Electro Acoustic (PEA) technique was adopted to understand the space charge dynamics in elastomeric material. It is observed that the polarity of the applied DC voltage voltage and its magnitude alters the space charge dynamics in insulation structure. It is also noticed that any addition of compound to the base material/processing technique have characteristic varia...

This review covers a spectrum of optoelectronic properties of and uses for semi-insulating semiconductor heterostructures and thin films, including epilayers and quantum wells. Compensation by doping, implantation, and nonstoichiometric growth are described in terms of the properties of point defects and Fermi level stabilization and pinning. The principal optical and optoelectronic properties ...
